Eliot Kleinberg is that rarest of Floridians: a native. Born in South Florida, he spent nearly a half century as a reporter, including more than 33 years at The Palm Beach Post in West Palm Beach. In addition to covering local news, he also wrote extensively about Florida and Florida history and produced two history columns that ran around the state.
He has written fourteen books -- and co-wrote or contributed to several more -- all focusing on Florida. They include the Civil War historical novel Peace River, the Miami police detective series “The Adventures of Nate Moran,” the 1928 hurricane history Black Cloud, and two "Weird Florida" books.
He lectures dozens of times a year around Florida, including with the speakers bureau of the Florida Humanities Council, and is a member of several state and local historical societies. He separately runs a blog on better writing called "Something Went Horribly Wrong.”
The son of longtime prominent South Florida journalist Howard Kleinberg, he graduated from Miami-area public schools and the University of Florida. He and his wife have two adult children and one grandchild and live in suburban Boca Raton, Florida.
