The floorboards vibrated. I looked at my watch. Five in the a.m. No more shuteye tonight. I pulled on my trousers and ran out barefoot. The gravel stabbed my heels. I looked past the parking spaces, and the coast road, and the beach. Out at sea, the sky was lit, in a way that nature don’t make. A muffled rumble. It jacked up to a boom. The sky turned from dull gray to bright white. I shielded my eyes. White trails shot like falling stars.
“It’s a U-Boat! A U-Boat!”
