On this date in 1886, the Statue of Liberty was dedicated. It’s over my shoulder. I am at Liberty State Park in New Jersey. The statue is a symbol of America as a nation of immigrants, holding on to their traditions while contributing to a great society that welcomed them as equals. It didn’t always work out.
